Forever

In the time of plastic, what does it mean to hope something outlives you?

"I hope my first book

is printed on the last tree."

"I hope my demos never rot;

I hope they spin forever,

unplayable,

on a shining sea."

The machine will hold your every word

in case no one else does,

the very same way a cannibal plans

to keep a lover from leaving.

None of that will do.

Every body must decay.

I hope all my work disappears.
